Toulon, between mountain and sea
When you arrive in Toulon, go straight from your OUIBUS onto a river bus! That way, you can easily head towards Porquerolles, catch a shuttle towards Corsica or stay within the harbour, where you’re bound to see the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier… France’s most important naval town, Toulon is home to the musée de la Marine where you can admire models of many ships and galleys. Its huge door, with four Greek columns dating back to the 18th century, is a listed national monument.
The mont Faron cable car will allow you to climb up to 1916 feet in just a few minutes, where you can admire the coast line and the countryside of the Var region. Discover the coast by taking the small trails down to the beaches of Mourillon, an old fishing village that still retains a tranquil charm.
In the city centre, things are a little more active! Every week, fans gather in the Mayol stadium, home to the RC Toulon rugby team and gifted to the town by the famous singer. The biggest market in Provence happens every day on the cours Lafayette. For those who want some peace and quiet, visit the town’s Art museum, where you can see all sorts of masterpieces, or head over to the place Raimu. The actor was born in Toulon and the town has several monuments dedicated to him, including a statue of the famous card game in Marcel Pagnol’s Marius. Take a seat beside him to wait for OUIBUS to come and take you to your next destination…
