The North-West tip of France

Set your sights on France’s north-western point; climb aboard the OUIBUS to the furthest reaches of Brittany. Welcome to Brest! As they say, you’re never just passing through Brest, you travel to Brest. So take advantage of this lovely seaside town with its multifaceted character. You’ll arrive in the  commercial port beside the Quai Commandant Malbert. Take a deep breath of fresh sea air and soak up the Breton atmosphere, wandering past the seafront cafes, restaurants and working shipyards.  Very close by, you can visit the National Navy Museum, which is always a hit with kids. Keen sailors will enjoy watching the forest of masts bobbing about in the Port-Blanc. Dive deeper into the marine world with a visit to Océanopolis.

If you’re happier with your feet on dry land, go for a stroll through the town centre. The Rue de Siam is the main thoroughfare, set on a steep hill looking down towards the sea which lies at one end of it. The town was bombed during the Second World War and the reconstructed parts of Brest are not particularly notable. However, the districts of Recouvrance and Saint-Martin are charmingly historic and there’s a festive atmosphere in the cafes and bars here. As you leave Brest, you can admire the fine view over the town and the harbour from the cable-stayed Iroise bridge which stretches 800m across the river Elorn.
