La belle provençale
“When I was in Aix, I thought I would be better somewhere else. Now that I’m here, I regret leaving Aix...”. Will you, like the painter Paul Cézanne, be won over by Aix-en-Provence? It’s the perfect city for leisurely strolls: explore its narrow, Baroque lanes and admire its famous fountains which bring a refreshing touch to the streets and squares. You may not realise that Aix has more cultural heritage than any other French city, after Paris.
If you are a food-lover, you’ll be in heaven, with the local cuisine showcasing sun-gorged fruit and vegetables, fresh seafood and rich Provencal and Mediterranean flavours. Some of the local specialities include pistou, daube provençale and aioli. You cannot visit Aix without trying the calissons: these pretty, pastel coloured delicacies are made with almonds and candied melon, and have been a local speciality since the 17th century. If you’re a culture-vulture, Aix has plenty in store for you. With the Aix-en-Provence Festival (opera and classical music), the Festival of French chanson, Encounters of the 9th Art (a comic book festival), Image de Ville Festival, it would be hard to choose just one event.
But now that OUIBUS goes to Aix-en-Provence, you know you can always come back!
